Tributes have been paid to a popular apprentice jockey who died this week following an accident on a horse in Co Carlow.
Ronan Lawlor,( 21 ), was out training with horses on a gallop in the Leighlinbridge area at lunchtime on Tuesday when he fell from the horse and hit a fence.
Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the tragic accident and a report will be carried out on the incdient.
Horse trainer Pat Fahy described the incident as 'devastating'.
He said, “the horse just took off along the gallop with him. When he tried to pull him back he was thrown into the post.
I cannot quite believe it. It's devastating as he was like family to me. My son Connor and he were such good friends.”
Mr Lawlor is survived by parents John and Helena, sister Aoife and brothers Gavin, Conor and Cathal.
