Seven teams participated in the under 11 camogie tournament held recently in Clara. The aim of the day was to promote camogie, encourage girls to play and enjoy the game. In group 1 Castlecomer played St Brigid’s and Castlecomer won this game by 1 goal to no score. Thomastown took on Emeralds and emerged victorious by 4 goals to 1 goal. In the second round Thomastown played Castlecomer and won by 3 goals to no score. St Brigid’s had a convincing victory over Emeralds by 5 goals to 1 goal. In the third round of this group Castlecomer were 2 goals to no score winners over Emeralds and Thomastown and St Brigid’s played out a draw on 3 goals each. In group 2 St Martin’s had a convincing win over Young Irelands and Clara also beat Young Irelands. St Martin’s beat Clara on a score line of 8 goals to 2 goals. This set up a Cup semi final between Thomastown and Clara and Castlecomer and St Martin’s and a shield semi final between Young Irelands and Emeralds with St Brigid’s getting a bye into the final. In the shield semi final Emeralds beat Young Irelands and in the final St Brigid’s beat Emeralds. In the cup semi final Clara beat Thomastown and St Martin’s beat Castlecomer setting up a rematch of an earlier round match. Clara held St Martin’s scoreless for the first half and were unlucky not to score themselves. St Martin’s scored twice in the second half to emerge victorious.
