The “B” Track and Field Championships, rained off twice during the summer, has just taken place last weekend, in very pleasant conditions on a particularly well marked out track in Thomastown. The sun which remained hidden for much of the summer appeared in full force. Michael O’Keeffe, Thomastown, starter for the afternoon, kept events moving at a steady pace. The result was an action-packed afternoon. Competition was very keen, particularly in the under seven to under twelve age groups. So the curtain has finally come down on track and field. The cross-country season now swings into action. Hopefully the recent spell of good weather will continue at least for the county cross-country championships which take place in October. The first round is in Ballycurran Cross on October 5 and the second round will be in Annamult on 12th Oct.
St Senan’s in Germany
A number of St Senan’s athletes travelled to Germany to take part in the Berlin marathon. Owen Gahan, running his first ever marathon, finished in a very satisfactory 62nd place in 2 hours 30 minutes 45 seconds. Sean Caulfield, P J Dwyer and Andy Dollard were the other members of the St Senan’s travelling brigade. Their respective times were 2.40.23, 2.57.37 and 3.26.00.
