Gowran pantomime cast in final furlong of rehearsals

The cast and crew of Gowran pantomime society are donning their costumes and preparing for the week of theatrics when they put their performance of Beauty and the Beast on stage.

Directed by Belgian local, Charles Felix, this year’s production is as ever, top heavy with music, songs, comedy, dance and most of all local talent.

This is the society’s 11th production at Gowran’s parish hall and year on year, the show is a sell-out proving to be the most popular production of the year in the village.

Charles is dipping his toes in uncharted waters, as this is his first time directing such a performance and to say that it is large scale is not an exaggeration. With up to 100 children alone taking part in the show - the logistics alone are close on those required for landing a jumbo jet!

The cast and crew have been busy in rehearsals for several months and the set and costumes are all being created locally by volunteers. The story of this year’s performance goes something like this; Prince Pavel gets into a bit of trouble. The witch doesn’t appreciate not being invited to the Prince’s ball at the castle, so she crashes in the gate and makes a big fuss. Casting a spell on the prince she turns him into am ugly beast who unless he finds love, with remain a beast forever. We all know the original story but Gowran pantomime society will be likely to put their own spin on it....

The show takes place on February 19- 21 nightly, with an extra matinee on Sunday 21 at 3pm. Tickets available on 056 7726117.
