A former Kilkenny band have said that they are honoured to hear that they are to have a tribute to their music in the form of a tribute album next month.
The UK independent Stressed Sumo Records, is releasing Pledge - A Tribute To Kerbdog on March 6, next.
Described as “a tribute to a band that never received the acclaim or attention they deserved”, it features contributions from the likes of Dutch Shultz (‘Hard To Live’ ), Mike Got Spiked (‘Dry Riser’ ), Knievel Genius (‘Inseminator’ ), Frank Turner (‘Sally’ ) and Left Side Brain (‘Severed’ ). Among those contributing sleeve-notes are Hot Press contributor Edwin McFee.
“Kerbdog had a sound and image that was fresh and intense. Their debut album was a constant fixture in our stereos — to be emulated and dissected. The fact that this sound came from a Kilkenny band was amazing. It gave a much-needed kick in the groin to the Irish rock scene,” said Mike Got Spiked.
RTÉ 2fm DJ, Kilkenny man Cormac Battle, and the rest of the band will be the guests of honour on March 6, when Dutch Shultz, Cars on Fire, and Stations play at the official launch party in the Dublin Academy.
Kilkenny native Cormac Battle said: “I thought tribute albums were reserved for the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young but to have one dedicated to my own band Kerbdog is truly astonishing. I was totally unaware that we had been heard of by these bands, never mind influenced their sound. We are humbled, honoured, and chuffed by this record and a sincere hats off to everybody involved. You can’t stop the rock!”
