Kilkenny school links with State Street in business plan for students

A Kilkenny school is twinning with a locally based company to give its students the business edge that will help them to develop their careers when they enter the workforce.

The students are taking part in an innovative Government-backed programme called the Schools Business Partnership that twins schools with major local businesses that will see Kilkenny City VS twin with global banking giant State Street International in Kilkenny.

Local Fianna Fail Deputy John McGuinness said that he was delighted that such prestigious local businesses was taking part despite challenging economic times.

“Countrywide more than 14,000 students from schools involved in the Department’s School Completion Programme have signed up for the Schools Business Partnership plan which aims to develop links between schools and local businesses in supporting inclusion in education.”

State Street International will appoint a mentor to students and will help them through school, advising them on CV preparation and interviews. There will also be opportunities for work experience.

“I am delighted that Kilkenny VS and State Street International are partnering so well to boost students’ entrepreneurial potential and prepare them for the world of work.”

“We must also acknowledge the support of teachers and the parents of the students.”

“Staying in school is vital to a young person’s development and life chances and this programme will be a great help,” concluded Deputy McGuinness.
