Two students from Co Kilkenny are on tenterhooks after receiving news that they are in with a chance to win the national Doodle 4 Google competition.
Everyone in Co Kilkenny is now being urged to log onto www.google.ie/doodle4google and vote for the students and their doodles to bring the Doodle 4 Google crown to Kilkenny.
Suzanne Williams (fifth year ) and Patrick Farnell (Transition Year ), both from Kilkenny College, are among 80 regional finalists in with a chance of winning the competition.
The BIG vote is open until February 1, and the four doodles (one from each group ) receiving the most public votes will go forward to the final where Google’s chief
webmaster and graphic designer Michael Lopez will select the overall winner.
The winning doodle will feature on the Google homepage where it will be seen by millions of internet users and the winner’s school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.
The Doodle 4 Google competition is open to all primary and secondary schools in the Republic of Ireland and this year students were asked to create a doodle on the theme ‘My Future’.
Alice Mansergh, Head of EMEA customer marketing, Google Ireland said, “millions of people view the Google homepage every day and there is a chance that the doodle on March 3, could be the work of one young Kilkenny artist if the public go online in support of Suzanne and Patrick.”
“We are delighted with level of the entries in this year’s competition and selecting the 80 finalists was no easy task considering the level of creativity and talent displayed by Irish students.
“I want to congratulate all finalists on reaching this stage of the competition. We are now calling on the public in Kilkenny to visit the Doodle 4 Google website and show their support for their local students and schools by voting for Suzanne and Patrick.”
For more information and to vote for the winning doodles go to www.google.ie/doodle4google where the website is available in both English and Irish.
