The new president of the Irish Farmers Association, Kilkenny man John Bryan, has officially taken over from the outgoing leader Padraig Walsh.
Mr Bryan has said one of the major challenges facing him in the next few years will be the renegotiation of EU spending on farming.
Mr Bryan, a former Garda, was elected in late December, and will serve as president for the next four years.
A livestock farmer from Inistioge, Co Kilkenny, he formally became the 13th leader of the IFA at its annual general meeting on Tuesday afternoon this week.
The new president has already called on the Government to strongly defend the interests of farmers in Brussels, and has pledged to fight any cuts in EU payments to farmers.
