Public meeting for diabetes sufferers

The Kilkenny Branch of the Diabetes Federation of Ireland will hold a public education meeting on Wednesday January 13, in the Newpark Hotel at 8pm.

Admission is free and all are welcome. This New Year’s meeting offers people with diabetes an opportunity to review their goals and to hear practical tips on how to improve their overall health.

Speakers Dr Mary Ryan, consultant physician and endocrinologist at Aut Even Hospital, will focus on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle in the day to day management of diabetes.

Dr Ryan who has appeared on the RTE programme “How Long Will You Live” says, “It is vital that patients understand diabetes and people should be educated on how to manage their condition on a daily basis”.

Irene Stokes, podiatrist at The Foot Clinic, Kilkenny will outline the importance of a daily foot-care regime and will also display a range of footwear products.

The federation’s commitment to education is a strategic response to the fact that over 200,000 people have diabetes in Ireland and these meetings are designed to encourage people with diabetes to become more knowledgeable about their condition so they can more effectively work with their diabetes team in order to maintain good control of their condition.
