Shannon, McGowan, Mundy and Imelda May to rock The Hub

The Hub at Cillin Hill is preparing for a pre-New Year’s Eve party with Sharon Shannon, Shane McGowan, Mundy and Imelda May descending on the venue on Wednesday December 30.

This superb line-up includes top acts Sharon Shannon, Shane McGowan, Mundy and Imelda May.

Following on from a sell-out gig last year, the gang return to the same venue for a second gig but this year, they bring with them the talents of the much-loved rockabilly/pop singer Imelda May.

Where better to hear “Fairytale of New York” and “Galway Girl” than on your own doorstep with Shane and Sharon - straight from the horse’s mouth.

Ex-Pogues front man Shane MacGowan whole-heartedly embraced the punk movement and has enjoyed a controversial career ever since that has seen him share stages with a glittering array of music legends. He has been one of the most influential figures in song-writing since the mid 1980s and has penned some classic songs down through the years, such as “A Rainy Night in Soho”, “A Pair of Brown Eyes” and, of course, that all time classic “Fairytale of New York”.

Meanwhile, multi-platinum selling Sharon Shannon uses a unique blend of traditional Irish music, reggae, bluegrass, blues, soul, gospel and world music to entertain her audiences around the world. With her new band Saints and Scoundrels, there’s no doubt she’ll deliver a great night.

Imelda May’s huge radio hit “Johnny’s Got a Boom Boom” is also sure to get a rapturous reception in Kilkenny. The rockabilly songstress hails from the Liberties, in Dublin and has taken the Irish music scene by storm this year. Her stunning number one double platinum selling debut album "Love Tattoo" has remained in the top 12 for 29 weeks, with hit singles “Johnny’s Got a Boom Boom” and “Big Bad Handsome Man”

Singer-songwriter Mundy also needs no introduction to a Kilkenny audience and following on from his early beginnings busking on the streets of Dublin and from showcasing his talents at the capital's various open mic nights, thirteen years later he is appearing with globally renowned artists such as McGowan and Shannon. With hits such as ‘July’ and ‘Mexico’ under his belt, Mundy is a multi-platinum artist who has toured the world and performed with legends such as Van Morrison, The White Stripes, Neil Diamond, Alanis Morrisette and Oasis.

He will be sure to entertain the masses expected to attend the December 30 gig at the Hub at Cillin Hill.

The last remaining tickets for what promises to be one of the biggest nights out this Christmas are available from Ticketmaster online and at Rollercoaster Records, Kieran St, Kilkenny. They cost €44. Further details from www.thehubkilkenny.ie and www.miglive.com
