It is likely that members of Kilkenny County Council will have much to discuss when they consider proposals for improvements to the Kells Road on Monday as some members of Kilkenny Borough Council have already expressed their concerns over the proposed works.
Speaking at the monthly meeting on Monday night, Cllr Joe Reidy (FF ) said he was very disappointed that the concerns of the residents of Corcoron’s Terrace had not been fully considered and added that he didn’t agree with plans to take away green space to provide car parking spaces. Council official Brian Tyrrell pointed out that they were reducing green space to provide footpaths.
Cllr Andrew McGuinness (FF ) was worried that the residents of seven houses in Corcoron’s Terrace would lose their parking facilities to double yellow lines while Cllr Michael Lanigan warned that ‘more greenspace than is necessary’ would be lost to accommodate the works.
“At present the road does not have a footpath and it is an important issue of safety and safe passage and this project is something which needs to be carried out,” said Mayor Pat Crotty acknowledging the importance of the scheme.
