A local man has launched a Dragons’ Den style venture capital company to seek out entrepreneurs to invest in.
Cash-strapped small and medium sized enterprises will have the opportunity to seek investment through a new company launched by Kilkenny millionaire Shane Walsh.
The Phoenix Fund kicked off in the Hub, Cillin Hill, on Wednesday last, December 9.
"It's a win win situation," the CBS entrepreneur said. "I get to invest in some exciting people and companies for a share of their business and the money I invest helps them stay afloat or allows them to expand.
"There is a window of opportunity to seize the best investment
opportunities while the banks continue to rip the shirts off the backs of small and medium sized indigenous Irish businesses. If the banks won't help then I will," he added.
The Phoenix Fund, which is launching with an initial seed fund of €100,000, is carrying out a tour of the country likely to last around 15 weeks looking for the best ideas and businesses to invest in.
The Kilkenny search began on Wednesday where a full day of activities, speed networking and professional services was provided.
