More arrested in ATM raids probe

As part of the ongoing Garda investigation into the theft of ATM machines from business premises in the south-eastern and eastern regions, a further number of searches were carried out on Thursday November 26 last.

As a result of these searches three people (two men and one woman ) ranging in ages from late 20s to early 30s were arrested and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Eight of the original 13 were released without charge and the remaining five have had their period of detention extended.

On Friday four further searches were carried out and a man in his 30s was arrested. He was detained in New Ross Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Nine people are currently detained in relation to this investigation.

Kilkenny has been affected by ATM raids of late, most recently the Bank of Ireland in Graiguenamanagh. The bank remained closed for some months before recently reopening.
