Active weekend for Clara camogie girls

Clara under 14 camogie shield final: Clara under 14 camogie team played the under 14 shield final against Thomastown recently in St Kieran’s College. This was a hard fought battle with Clara first half scores coming from Alyson Creane who goaled after a solo run from midfield, Deirdre Carrigan scored Clara’s second goal following a pass from Catherine Murphy and Ciara Byrne pointed following a pass from Claire Nolan. Thomastown scored 1-1 in the first half. In the second half Thomastown scored two points to leave just a point between the teams and despite their best efforts the Clara backs denied them the score to level the match and Ciara Byrne added a point for Clara to leave the final score Clara 2-2, Thomastown 1-3.

U11 camogie tournament – This was held in Clara on Saturday last with 7 teams participating – Clara, St Martins, Emeralds, Castlecomer, St. Brigids, Thomastown and Young Irelands. The weather was fantastic and the girls gave their all with each team playing four matches. In the cup St. Martins and Emeralds reached the semi final with Emeralds progressing to the final but losing out to St Brigids. In the other semi final Clara overcame Thomastown by the narrowest of margins and St Martins beat Castlecomer. This set up a rematch of the first round of games which was won convincingly by St Martins. The Clara team fought very hard and kept St Martins scoreless in the first half. St Martins scored twice in the second half and won the final.

Junior A county final

Clara contested the junior A county final on Saturday evening in Callan against Mullinavat and were lucky to win by two points on a scoreline of Clara 2-11, Mullinavat 1-12. This was a hard fought battle and Colm Meaney saved the day for Clara making a save in the final puck of the ball. The scorers for Clara were Stephen Quinlan 0-1, Ger Prendergast 1-4, Robert Shortall 0-3 (3 frees ), Liam Ryan 1-2, Brian O’Shea 0-1.
