Two men are still being detained and questioned in connection with the kidnapping of the wife of bank official Adrian Ronan and the attempt to rob €3m from The Bank of Ireland in the city on November 3, last.
The men who are understood to be brothers were arrested in Dublin on Tuesday and detectives escorted them to Kilkenny on Tuesday evening.
The two, aged 28 and 36 years were arrested in west Dublin and have addresses in Walkinstown. They were already known to gardaí but they are not believed to be major gangland figures, however at least one of them has a history of drug use.
Mobile phone records led to their arrests this week after telephone records and CCTV footage was examined by investigators dealing with the tiger kidnapping incident, which saw the wife of former Kilkenny hurler Adrian Ronan, Mary held hostage at gunpoint at a disused weather station on the Granges Road.
The gang broke into the Ronan family home at Ballycallan, Co Kilkenny, at 6.15am on Tuesday, November 3.
Adrian and his three children, all aged under 10 years were ordered to go to the bank to secure some €3million for the raiders. However, once the gang understood that the funds could not possibly be secured, they absconded, but not before firing a shot over the head of Mary Ronan.
Ms Ronan managed to free herself on their departure and she alerted local people in the area.
The two men are currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to a week.
Gardaí continue to seek any new information on the case and ask that anyone with any information come forward in confidentiality to Kilkenny Garda Station.
