Couples getting married in Kilkenny will now be permitted to tie the knot in a civil ceremony at Kilkenny Castle.
The Register for Civil Marriages has granted approval to both the Parade Tower and the Duchess Boardroom for performing civil marriage ceremonies.
Both venues may now be rented for the holding of a wedding ceremony. The events manager at the castle will arrange viewing and bookings.
Deputy John Mc Guinness said that he was delighted that weddings could be carried out in the two locations following his representations to the OPW and Minister Martin Manseragh TD.
“The castle is an ideal setting for such a ceremony and will add to its attraction. I am delighted with the arrangement,” he added.
