Those who thought that the lifting of the Sam Maguire on Sunday was the signal to finally put away the county colours for another year would be very much mistaken.
With the launch of the National Rehab/Powers Whiskey Pub Quiz in association with the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI ), there is still one more chance to be crowned All-Ireland champion and you can be a part of the glory.
Trivia experts in Carlow and Kilkenny are being asked to answer their county’s call and register a team for one of the quiz nights taking place from Monday October 6 to Sunday October 19.
As part of the initiative, pub quiz nights are scheduled to take place in some 325 participating VFI pubs throughout the country. All proceeds from the nights will go towards the further development of Rehab services nationwide.
The winning team from each pub will progress to a county final on Friday November 7 to compete for the honour of representing their county in the national final to be held on Tuesday November 21 at the Shamrock Lodge, Athlone.
And it wouldn't be an All-Ireland final without the presence of legendary GAA commentator, Micheál O’Muircheartaigh who will be the special guest quizmaster at the national final.
Pauline Crowley, Head of Marketing at Rehab has called on the people of Carlow and Kilkenny to come out and support what promises to be a fantastic and fun way of raising much-needed funds for Rehab.
“Last year’s Rehab/Powers Whiskey Pub Quiz was a tremendous success with over 280 pubs taking part in helping to raise over €80,000 for the charity. This year the response from pubs has been even greater and so we have set a target of €100,000,” she said.
"Powers Whiskey is proud to support such a great initiative. We encourage people to get involved, have a great night and help to raise lots of money,” added Zoe Traynor, Brand Manager, Powers Whiskey.
Each quiz will consist of ten rounds of six questions covering a range of topics including general knowledge, history, sport, TV and film, music and current affairs.
All participants must be over 18 years of age. A full list of participating pubs is available on the Rehab website at www.rehab.ie
