There has been some good news for Kilkenny and MacDonagh Junction as music store HMV announced its arrival in Kilkenny bringing with it 15 new jobs. The new 3,500 sq ft HMV store will officially open on Monday, November 9, – just in time for the build up to the Christmas rush.
MacDonagh Junction is set to expand its retail experience before Christmas with six new retail units coming to do business in the two-year-old shopping centre.
Carraig Donn is also arriving shortly with 20 jobs being created. The shopping emporium will showcase the best of Irish and international designer fashion, lifestyle giftware, accessories and jewellery. The new store will continue to offer the boutique shopping experience with the purchasing power of a larger group.
And in coming weeks, MacDonagh Junction will also see the arrival of Josef Jeans, Premaman, and Sasha/No Name.
Peter Marks is also taking a larger new unit, and in the Workhouse Square BB’s Coffee and Muffins will be a welcome addition to the eateries and coffee shops already available to shoppers.
Centre manager at MacDonagh Junction Donie Butler said that the number of jobs created prior to Christmas with the new retailers on board would be in the region of 85.
“Already there are 424 people employed full and part-time at the shopping centre and the new opening will bring that number of jobs to in excess of 500,” he said.
He said “this is not only great news for the shopping centre, our existing tenants and shoppers, but is also a timely boost for jobs in the local Kilkenny economy and the south-east region in general.
Therea is already a high level of spend by visitors to MacDonagh Junction, and I feel sure that our new recent arrivals will add to this.

MacDonagh Junction has already become a firm favourite amongst shoppers for its retail, eatery options, and children’s play area. There will also be a host of activities on offer in the run up to Christmas.
