Petmania, Ireland’s largest petcare retailer, has teamed up with BirdWatch Ireland to launch its annual Garden Bird Survey 2009/10.
Participating in the Garden Bird Survey is a fun way to get the whole family involved in learning about garden birds, and how to care for them.
This is the first in a series of initiatives which will see Petmania and BirdWatch Ireland work together to promote and encourage the care of Ireland’s garden birds.
Members of the public who wish to take part in the Garden Bird Survey are invited to register at their local Petmania store or by email at gardenbirdsurvey@petmania.ie where they will receive their participant’s information pack.
Garden Bird Survey (GBS ) helps keep track of the fortunes of Ireland’s garden birds. Between December and February each year, members of the public are asked to keep note of the highest number of each bird species visiting their garden every week. Other helpful information is on the size of the garden being surveyed, the kinds of food, if any, being offered to the birds, and so on. Taking part is fun, easy and an ideal way to get to know your garden birds better. It also makes a great family or school project.
Photograph competition
To celebrate the launch of the survey Petmania is running a very special photography competition.
The theme is ‘Birds in My Garden’ and entrants are invited to send their photographs by email to competitions@petmania.ie. Closing date for entries is Friday November 27.
Each photograph should be accompanied by the following: Description, photographer name, address, age, phone number, and email address. Images should be sent as jpegs with file sizes no larger than 5MB.
Selected entries will be published in the local newspapers and displayed in store. Each Petmania store will have four runner-ups winning a fabulous hamper of products to help them care for their garden birds, with the overall winner in each store winning a year’s supply of garden bird food.
Petmania is a wholly Irish owned chain of pet stores that provides pet owners with expert advice and assistance on how best to care for their pets.
