Value added at Rothe House auction

Kilkenny people who have items in their houses which may be of a value because of the precious metal they contain may be interested in a new event at Rothe House this Saturday.

Kilkenny Archaeological Society in association with Rothe House Trust has engaged the services of David Hughes auctioneer of Parliament Street and Graiguenamanagh who will value furniture, precious metals and items of jewellery for interested patrons. He will be joined by noted South East Book seller and collector James A O’ Donoghue,

Often valuations based solely on the weight of material are not an accurate indication of how much money the jewellery will fetch at auction. But securing a professional valuation can often be cumbersome and may even prove to be expensive.

The two experts will provide a professional valuation of items presented to them in Rothe House on Saturday October 10 from 3pm to 5pm. Both are offering their services free of charge. In lieu a contribution to the Rothe House Restoration fund of just €5 is requested in respect of each item valued. Items can be left in at any time prior to these times for their attention.

Later that evening, from 7.30 those who wish may auction furniture, books and objets d’art and other items they may no longer require. It is hoped some may wish to donate all or part of the proceeds to the Rothe House Restoration fund. Those who do will of course not have to bear the usual commission which will other wise apply.
