This Sunday in Connolly Street, the people of the Butts community are pulling on their wellies for the first Butts Community Wellie Race.
The event is a bid to raise money for the Dicksboro effort to crown Michael Devane, ‘King of the Castle’.
And it is not just people who will be taking part in the fun-day activities, dogs, cats, parrots, snakes and lizards are expected in great numbers as the Butts community re-launch the very popular Butts Dog and Exotic Pets Show Competition.
The Dicksboro Club will also sponsor a bouncy castle for young children while the local handball club, St. Canice’s, are organising penalty shoot outs and other fun competitions for children in the area.
Well known dog show judge, Martin Falsey is organising the pet and dog show events in the afternoon, while the wellie race for both adults and children will start on Connolly Street before ending in the community’s new public park at the rear of the Fr McGrath Centre.
PP Fr Jim Murphy said, “I hope local families will come out in force to support this very worthy community event and they bring their children and their pets for an afternoon of fun and family activities.” He also said that “All funds raised by the event will go to worthy causes in our parish that deserve support”
Dicksboro event organiser, Martin Gaffney, claimed it will be a day of fun and laughter that will not be quickly forgotten in the community.
The dog and pet show will start this Sunday at the Fr McGrath Centre at 2pm and the Butts Wellie Race will start in Connolly Street at 4pm. All are welcome.
