Danesfort’s Paddy Hogan wins crossbar challenge at Croker

Paddy Hogan, brother of All-Ireland winner Richie, gave Kilkenny fans some consolation at the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 All-Ireland Final when he won the half time crossbar challenge in front of over 25,000 fans at Croke Park, seeing off hurling star Joe Canning amongst others.

Paddy secured the prize of €500 worth of gear for his club, Danesfort, after a dramatic play off at the Davin Stand end.  The other challengers were Bord Gáis Energy ambassador, Joe Canning, Padraig Walsh of Tularoan, Harry Horgan of Clonlara in Clare and his fellow countyman Ivor Whyte of St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield.

Each player was given an initial three chances each to hit the crossbar from 21 metres.  When Clareman Ivor Whyte matched Paddy’s skill with a hit, MC Marty Morrissey was forced to announce a play off between the two rivals.

Paddy stunned the crowd when he doubled his score on his third play off shot and was declared the winner.
