Green Party TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Mary White, has paid tribute to all the towns in Kilkenny that won awards in the 2009 Tidy Towns competitions, the winners of which were announced on Monday.
“Congratulations are due to all in Kilkenny who won awards and also to all who participated in this very important community and environmental event across the county,” the Green Party deputy leader said.
“In particular I congratulate the city for their victory in Category G of the Gold Medal population category, as well as winning in the county overall. Congratulations are also due to Inistioge for their strong performance in the Bronze medal awards, and to Callan for its improvement on last year’s rating, which has earned them an endeavour award.
“Congratulations are also due to Gowran National School for their success in the regional schools’ competition.
“The Tidy Towns competition, which has been running for many years, is a very valuable opportunity for communities to come together to clean their towns and demonstrate pride of place,” she added. “It is environmentally important.”
