City Charter memoir launched at City Hall

The launch of a very special book took place this week in the Tholsel to celebrate the Kilkenny 400 celebrations.

John Bradley’s book Kilkenny City Charter 1609 was introduced by the author and the Mayor of Kilkenny Malcolm Noonan and members of Kilkenny Borough Council.

Mr Bradley gave a witty and informative introduction to his book which, he said outlined the 25 years of effort involved in getting Kilkenny city’s Charter from London to Kilkenny.

He reminded people how Kilkenny was so important at that time as it was the only route that people could use to get from Dublin to Cork as it was considered too dangerous to go through Laois.

Mr Bradley also said that for people who suffer from insomnia this book could be the solution to their problem!

The publication was welcomed by Mayor Noonan and County Manager Joe Crockett who was also in attendance for the launch.

The British Ambassador was presented with a copy of the book while he was in Kilkenny on Saturday for one of his last official engagements before he moves from his current position.
