Fleva for flavour and a touch of class

Fleva has a fresh new look and proprietor Kayrin is delighted to be showing off her new restaurant and menus to the general public.

Located upstairs close to the Town Hall on High Street, Fleva is an excellent choice for casual dining.

Fleva is one of Kilkenny’s finest casual and contemporary restaurants and it boasts a venue that is both colourful and bright overlooking Kilkenny’s High Street and a menu that is wholesome and flavoursome - something that not all restaurants manage to master.

Head chef Michael Thomas is a high-end Eurotorque chef, a Catex Ireland 2009 medalist, a twice international Chef Olympic Medallist and is currently completing his culinary arts degree to become a chef lecturer.

Fleva prides itself on the use of local artisan products such as Lavistown sausage, Knockdrinna cheese and Goatsbridge trout and with the stunning art work adorning the eclectic coloured walls - there is a touch of class about this dining experience. While enjoying excellent fresh produce, you will also be offered a visual treat as you digest your sumptuous lunch or dinner with the current exhibition hanging on Fleva’s brightly painted walls.

Russian artist Elena Mikhailova has developed a distinctive style over the years and thick oil on canvas depicts her diverse subject matter of romantic street scenes, spirited horses and portraits.

But to move on to the more culinary delights... Fleva offers a menu with a range of tastes, portions, prices and of course wine.

The lunch menu has become extremely popular and ginger spiced pork wontons are particularly tasty. The soup of the day is served in beautiful terrine style bowls and comes with fresh baked bread. Starter prices begin at €5.50 and several of these dishes can also be had as main courses.

Main courses range from a gourmet BLT for just €7.50 to a rib eye steak for €14.95. However, the Thai green curry comes highly recommended at €11.95. Served with basmati rice and a large crispy popadom - it is a spicy dish that will quell the hunger of anyone who has a penchant for Asian cuisine.

The a la carte dinner menu also offers a selection of excellent options including terrine of Knockdrinna goats cheese which is served with artichokes ad fresh herbs, toasted brioche and tomato jam priced at €9.50. The main courses come with two options - light dining - which includes Duncannon mussels crab and baby shrimp caesar salad and pan fried Atlantic scallops. For the hungrier diner, the main courses also include, sundried tomato fresh basil ravioli, slow roast leg of veal, roast rack of Kilkenny lamb, and baked fillet of salmon.

The desserts of meringue with fresh strawberries and cream, chocolate brownie and coffee cheesecake are also extremely tempting and hard to resist - even after a sumptuous meal cooked to perfection at the hands of top chefs.
