The Orchard Theatre Company, will stage a spectacular evening of theatrical entertainment showcasing the genres of ballet, opera and Shakespearian drama.
The unique setting will be an open air theatre in Cuffesgrange in Co Kilkenny in the last weekend in August for three performances.
The performance is entitled Musica Maschera (Music in Mask ) and will be performed in the tradition of Italian Commedia del’Arte.
This is a full costume piece with Renaissance period costumes and genuine Italian theatrical masks.
Musica in Maschera will be set in the grounds of Highbank Organic Orchards at Cuffesgrange and it will be staged complete with Commedia dell’Arte Italian Renaissance costumes, masks, dance, classical music, opera, and Shakespeare.
Orchard Theatre Company started out in 2008 and consists of a mix of amateur and professional performers from Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford.
The group seeks to bring new and vibrant performances to the audience, in order to welcome people back to the theatre.
The first production of the group was Amadeus by Peter Shaffer, followed by Wiping my Mother’s Arse by Iain Heggie.
The current production of Musica e Maschera has been in development for the last 18 months as it is a totally new piece.
Orchard Theatre Company also run regular workshops that focus on the various skills that are required for the stage or camera.
Recent workshops included: Acting for beginners, Michael Chekhov’s methods, and Mask and Commedia.
