Waterford City Council intends to resurface the section of the Abbey Road from the Hollow House to Power’s Funeral Home in Ferrybank in the next month.
The condition of this section of road has been an on-going issue in the area especially since the installation of the Waterford Main Drainage Scheme.
The city council is currently waiting for An Bord Gáis to carry out some works on its gas main there and once this is done the city council will proceed to resurface the road.
Cllr Tomas Breathnach said that it is hoped to have all works carried out before schools re-open in September.
Also of note is the fact that the city council has prepared design and lay-out for the realignment of the road. Due to recent reductions in capital allocations funding will be an issue and it is unlikely that this realignment will be carried out this year or next.
