Elaine thanks anglers on behalf of Kilkenny Alzheimer’s centre

The recent angling competition at the ‘Comer Fishing Lakes was a huge success.

Negotiations between Ms Sandra McGrath, manager of the Discovery Park, Helen Rothwell, fishery manager at the Lakes and Elaine Bradshaw of the Alzheimer’s Centre, resulted in this fabulous arrangement.

The Kilkenny Alzheimer’s Centre are very grateful to all who competed, sold sponsorship cards and organised the event, in particular Luke Boyle, Eddie Geraghty and John McCormack (Kilkenny Anglers Association ); Dan Webster (Kilkenny City and County Anglers ), John O’Neill, David Byrne and John Corcoran (Callan and District Anglers ), Lalor family (Durrow Anglers ), the O’Neill father and son team from Newpark Close and Pat Neary of the KKB.

Sponsorship cards

It would be very much appreciated by the organisers of this annual competition if those who may still have sponsorship cards outstanding to please send them to Elaine Bradshaw at 2 High Hayes Tce, Kilkenny or contact Elaine on 056 77 22839, (mobile 087 7670802 ) to arrange collection.

Salmon for sale

Despite the current law that all salmon fishing must be 'catch and release', or indeed as with the river Barrow 'no salmon fishing', these fish are regularly being offered for sale illegally. Members of the public should be aware that there are heavy fines imposed on anyone found purchasing or accepting such fish as a gift. Fishery officers are doing a fine job in most places to uphold this law but they need the assistance of every right-minded angler to combat these 'bandits'. It is vital for the survival of our salmon that protection laws are enforced in a zero toleration fashion by all those who enjoy the sport of angling.
