Live music upstairs at the Left Bank – ‘Swung Out’ with The Bluebird Quintet

The Bluebird Quintet is an international collaboration based in and around Kilkenny

and is made up of Nicola Harding, Kilkenny on vocals, Jonny Pumfrey, London, on the saxaphone, Nick Campus, Sardinia, on the guitar, Any Ludick, Ohio on the drums and William McGlynn also from Ohio.

The music is ‘swung out’ jazz from the fifties and sixties classics. Their influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, and Louis Armstrong.

The band launched nearly a year ago at the Kilkenny Arts Festival in the Home Rule Club, and went down so well they decided to do a run of gigs over the course of the year in different venues around Kilkenny. Playing gigs at DT’s bar - Pembroke Hotel, Billy Byrnes, Hotel Inn Kilkenny. The night itself has proven to be a great success with varied age groups getting into the swing and contributing to the overall “speakeasy” atmosphere. Following a great night last month the need for space to dance became apparent. The band approached Noel at the Left Bank having heard about the new venue, with its cool, sophisticated interior and beautiful sound system. The combination seemed perfect. Swung Out at the Left Bank promises to be a unique night and a great excuse to dress up and get with the groove.
