The annual fishing competition in aid of Kilkenny Alzheimer’s Centre was a great success on Saturday last. Despite the heavy rain which fell in the afternoon the day was most enjoyable with huge bags of quality rainbow trout landed.
Over 160 trout were caught and successfully landed, with over 80 fish taken on the bait fishing lake and almost the same amount at the fly fishing lake. The majority of the trout were in the 2lb to 3lb plus weight category. The event attracted over 30 anglers, including juveniles.
Fishery manager Helen Rothwell called an end to the competition at 3pm and the competitors made their way to the Museum Room for the presentations. Virtually every angler in the competition landed fish.
Results were as follows: Fly Fishing: 1 John Grace (11 fish ); 2 Paul Gleeson (9 fish ); 3 Maxime Danielli (9 fish ); and Callanman Sean Dunne won the special prize for capturing a tagged trout.
Bait Fishing results: 1 Stephen Blackmore (16 fish ); 2 Henry O’Neill (14 fish ); 3 Damien Roche (13 fish ).
Juvenile competition results: 1 Cian Casey; 2 Adam Cashin; 3 Shane Nolan.
