Cats keep their winning crown

Over 30,000 spectators looked on as Kilkenny received their second test of the season from Dublin before they ran out 2-18 to 0-18 winners of the Leinster hurling final.

Michael Rice opened the scoring for the Cats with a point and leading 0-4 to 0-3 after fourteen minutes, the first of ‘Man of the Match’ Martin Comerford's two goals set the side up for a 1-10 to 0-7 half time lead. On the restart the Dubs attack took the game back to Kilkenny and with three unanswered points had reduced the lead to a single score before Comerford's second goal put his side back in the driving seat in the fiftieth minute. Playing with an additional defender throughout, top player Alan McCrabbe pointed a sideline ball and two excellent Gary McGuire saves kept both sets of supporters on their feet. As the Kilkenny defence led by JJ Delaney held rock solid, Henry Shefflin (who was kept scoreless from play ) and David O'Callaghan added their sides' final scores in the last minute of this exciting final between the up and coming Anthony Daly’s Metropolitans.
