A goal by Ger Aylward in the third minute set Kilkenny up for a 1-18 to 0-11 victory over Wexford in Croke Park in the minor final. After a brilliant start that saw the side lead 1-4 to 0-1 after eight minutes, Wexford rallied and left only a point between the sides on two occasions approaching half time. During the second half the sides had shared six points by the twelfth minute before five unanswered points gave Kilkenny a well deserved victory.
