The new face of Fine Gael, Cllr David Fitzgerald made his maiden speech on the council this week and in doing so he thanked those who assisted him in his campaign.
“ I would like to thank the public for the opportunity bestowed upon me to act as a councillor. A special thanks to my brother John who gave me invaluable help throughout but also to my wife and children who debated the issues around the kitchen table as strongly as any debate in this chamber.
“I come from a long line of family politics and I would like to thank former mayor Pat Crotty for his support over the past few months. I was always told politics is an honourable profession and it is the democratic will of the people that brings us here.
“ I look forward to working on the council for the next few years,” he concluded.
