A new stamp marking the 400th anniversary of Kilkenny’s upgrade from town to city status will be issued by An Post on Tuesday next.
The 55c stamp, a Roger Reilly illustration of Kilkenny Castle, as seen from the quays with a view of St John’s Bridge, was designed by Steve Simpson.
Members of Kilkenny Borough Council were delighted that the stamp was being commissioned to mark this year’s celebration. It comes less than a month after President McAleese was granted the Freedom of the City.
