Murphy competes in RTEs The Raw Sessions

Kilkenny singer songwriter and avid skateboarder, Majella Murphy is through to the second round of The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson and will be heading off to Grouse Lodge to record a new song with producer Lance Hogan by her side.

Last week’s television programme saw Majella Murphy, who writes and arranges her own songs as well as playing guitar and harmonica create a song called “Too Small To Follow” with guest vocals from Paddy Casey.

Majella has wowed her fans in Kilkenny and nationwide and is a Meteor award winner.

Majella decided to release her aptly titled debut album 'Brave New World' through O2 and Sony Eriksson on a mobile phone. She was the first person to do this worldwide and so far it has been a great success, with user's loving the instant access from their phones. Majella also released her album, through conventional routes recently.

The first song Baby's Broken Heart, is penned by Kilkenny resident and renowned singer songwriter Jimmy McCarthy who lives in Jenkinstown in Co Kilkenny. It has been reported that in this tune she sounds like a skateboard punk version of Mary Black.

Three Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson programmes remain in the series - episode six on 16 June will see RSAG & Dirty Epics record new songs in 18 hours or less at Grouse Lodge and episode seven on 23 June will feature The Infomatics and Majella at Grouse Lodge. The final programme “The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson LIVE” which will be aired on RTE Two on 30 June will see the top three bands perform at a live event in The Button Factory on 26 June where one artist will be named “Sony Ericsson Artist of The Year”.

The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson, which is presented by recording artist and producer Dez Ryan, produced by Lotus Media and sponsored by Sony Ericsson is broadcast on RTÉ Two every Tuesday at 11.40pm until 30 June.
