Open week
Following on from the busiest calendar event in the club, (the Inter firms’ tournament ), the next competition to focus members’ attention will be on the Kilkenny Tennis Club Open Week.
This year’s competition is sponsored by Tiger Turf and Tennis Court Construction Ireland.
This popular tournament will take place from June 27 for one week with finals taking place on Saturday, July 4, and is open to members of Kilkenny Lawn and Tennis Club and surrounding clubs. Premier, A, B, C and D levels will be catered for in men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles. A veteran’s section (over 45 ) will cater for men’s and women’s doubles, depending on adequate numbers.
Application forms will be available this week in the clubhouse in Archersfield or from the website www.kilkennytennisclub.com The closing date for this competition is Tuesday, June 23.
The weekly American tournaments are back in full flow. There were two sections in last week’s competition with runners up spot in section 1 taken by Paul O’Dwyer and Emer O’Keefe, and winners of the top section being Bob O’Brien and Helen Connolly.
Section 2 runners up were Colin Shaw and Geraldine Dunne, while the winning prizes were taken by Mary Conway and Marie Woodcock.
A fund-raising American Tournament will take place on June 19 in the tennis club. This is being organised by Maurice O’Connor to support an education facility he is involved with in Ghana.

The weekly summer tournaments for junior members will commence in the first week of July. See the club notice board in the clubhouse for further details.
