Nancy Cummins passes away

NANCY (Ann ) Cummins (85 ) passed away peacefully at Archersrath Nursing Home, Kilkenny, on Monday morning.

Her husband, the popular Tommy Cummins, daughters Colette and Annette, and son Brendan, were with her in her last hours.

Born in Maudlin Street, Kilkenny, in 1923, Nancy was daughter of Henry and Annie McGuinness and sister of former Mayor of Kilkenny, the late Mick McGuinness.

A devoted mother, Nancy, and her husband Tommy raised their family in Assumption Place and O'Loughlin Road and were proud of the fact that they never left St John's Parish.

Nancy began her working life at the age of 16 in Padmore & Barnes when the boot factory was one of Kilkenny’s main employers. She worked there as an accounts clerk until the age of 65 and was renowned for her incredible accounting skills without the use of a calculator.

Nancy, who would have been 86 on June 12, was an ardent Fianna Fáil supporter. She was secretary of her local cumann. She headed the canvas team for the election campaigns of her brother Mick and encouraged her nephew John McGuinness, who is now a TD, to join Fianna Fail at a young age and to run for Kilkenny Corporation.

Nancy will be sadly missed by husband Tommy; daughters Colette and Annette; son Brendan; grandchildren Luke, Niall, Hannah, Niamh, Kevin and Abby and the extended Cummins and McGuinness families.

The family have fond memories of a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend, who worked tirelessly throughout her life to ensure the wellbeing of her family.
