Normally in the business of incarcerating others, Sergeant Gary Gordon is to incarcerate himself for a change by spending 30 hours in a display window in MacDonagh Junction today.
Sergeant Gordon will get into his new home today at midday in aid of Special Olympics.
The 3’ x 30’’ window will be where Sergeant Gordon will call home for a day and a half and he will be greeted by all sorts of challenges over his stint in the window.
The Sergeant will have to carry out certain tasks in order to earn his food, his sleep and any other extras that he might be requiring over the 30 hours.
He will also be teaming up with local radio station, KCLR, live on air.
People are invited to visit the imprisoned sergeant in the window and watch as he performs his daily duties in the public eye.
It’s thought that Sergeant Gordon may face some of his scariest challenges yet with snakes, chest waxing, tests by 10 year olds, being dressed as a convict and being handcuffed, over the next 30 hours.
Sergeant Gordon will be updating everyone via his laptop and social network phone supplied by 3Store at MacDonagh Junction. The public can keep up with the latest news on Twitter at http://twitter.com/mjmallcop.
The quirky fundraiser was devised by the Sergeant following the final leg of the Torch Run in Idaho at the end of January for the Special Olympics World Winter Games where police officers from the US were telling him about their fundraising ideas which included Tip a Cop, Cops on Doughnut Shops and Polar Plunge.
Gary and his colleagues will also be carrying out the Tip a Cop ‘ fundraiser where they will wait tables at Langtons over the weekend in hope of receiving a big tip in aid of the Special Olympics. So pay up for the good cops this weekend and give as generously as you can.
