This is the second year of the Stars For The Night competition which will see 10 contestants compete in a talent show that helped raise over €14,500 last year for the Niall Mellon Township Trust.
This year’s event is organised by three volunteers who hail from Kilkenny and Carlow - Joanne Lawlor, Majella O’Brien and Eamon Molyneaux. Between them they need to raise €15,000 towards the November Building Blitz for a township called Wallacedene in Cape Town, South Africa. The trio will be part of a group who will build houses for some of South Africa’s poorest people.
Stars For The Night will take place on Sunday, May 25 and will be hosted by Brian Ormonde of You’re A Star fame. Brian will introduce the ten contestants who will dress and sing as their favourite artists such as – Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, Abba, Frank Sinatra to name but a few. It’s a great night’s entertainment with fantastic prizes to be won for first and second place (two nights B& B in one of the Brennan Hotels with €500 spending money and second prize is a €250 holiday voucher from Manning’s Travel ). Each of the contestants needs to raise a minimum of €500 for the charity and there will be a prize of a crate of wine from the Wine Buff for the person who raises the most money.
The winner on the night will be chosen by three judges Orla O’Shea (former Rose of Tralee ) and two who will be confirmed over the weekend.
