Newcomer Stace Gill to treat Kilkenny audience

Kilkenny certainly has no shortage of new music thanks to the very successful venture of Ken McGuire and his One Take Sessions which have taken off with gusto in Cleere’s for another season.

On May 14 next, music lovers will be treated to a wonderful night of musical bliss when a great group of people take to the stage, including the up and coming Stace Gill who is well worth a listen.

Stace is a young musician in every sense of the word. A former Montessori teacher, she gave up her day job to take on what her heart was consistently telling her to do... music and song-writing.

“I spent hours teaching my schoolchildren songs and I think they knew all of the Mammas and Papas’ album before I left! However, I was terrified of going on stage and this is what prevented me from pursuing my dream of becoming a musician earlier than this. Now I am doing what I love but I am learning every day. I love to sing but I still get stage fright,” she admits.

Stace to date has supported Declan O’Rourke and is just back from Berlin and Hamburg where she was supporting Gordon Reeves in two performances last week.

“I have had a busy schedule and I don’t know how I fit in everything I do but I love it,” she enthused.

Not only is Stace set on conquering the music world but she also moonlights as a DJ on Dublin City FM where she presents a new music show and interviews musicians like herself taking on the difficult challenge that is the music world. During daylight hours when she is not playing guitar and writing music she is helping other musicians in their campaign to get their music out there on the streets, on the airwaves, and into big venues around the country.

“I do a bit of PR for bands and other singer songwriters and I DJ too so I am kept busy besides working on my own music.”

Stace has many influences but her sound is unique, encapsulating an underground electronic vibe fused with acoustic undertones and accompanied by exquisite harmony lines and fronted by a voice that is sweet and pure and enthralling for listeners.

With Portishead, Anthony and the Johnsons, Radiohead, and Bat for Lashes on her list of idols and musical influences. Stace is open to anything musical, and her own music reflects several different genres of music including acoustic, hip hop, alternative, jazz, and country.

Her new single ‘The Turn’ is “my business card” and just a sample of what is to come and what will be built upon in coming months and years.

Check out Stace Gill at Cleere’s on Parliament St at the One Take Session on Thursday night next. You may be pleasantly surprised...
