Rollercoaster celebrates record store day with sale

The best little record store in the south-east, Rollercoaster Music on Kieran Street, has signed up for international Record Store Day, which takes place this Saturday, April 18. Established in 2008, Record Store Day celebrates the culture and unique place that the independently-owned music store occupies in its local and national community.

As part of Rollercoaster’s celebrations, proprietors Willie Meighan and Darragh Butler are offering 10 per cent off all stock plus lots of free CDs, T-shirts, badges and other goodies, including Rice Krispie buns, Smarties and chocolate-chip cookies.

“Record Store Day is a great opportunity to celebrate good music,” says Willie Meighan. “We love what we do, and in this era of downloading and online shopping, we’re just trying to keep offering quality music and opportunities for people to discover new music in a real store, run by authentic music fans.”

To quote Nick Hornby: “Record stores can’t save your life. But they can give you a better one.”

Rollercoaster Music was last week voted one of Ireland’s Top 10 Music Shops by the Irish Independent and described thus: “A hidden gem in the medieval Marble City of Kilkenny, Rollercoaster is small but perfectly-stocked, with must-have albums, old and new.”
