With only 350 animals on offer, Kilkenny Mart provided another very lively cattle trade last Thursday.
The heifers sold particularly well, with prices increased by between €10 and €15 a head on the previous week. The bullocks furnished a steady trade all round while the culled cows also sold very well.
Bullocks
The bullocks weighing over 600 kg sold for prices ranging between €420 and €615 over their weight. Seven Charolais weighing 665 kg made €1,280 each while five Friesians weighing in at the same weight sold for €1,085.
The bullocks weighing over 500 kg sold at prices between €350 and €510 over their weight. Seven Aberdeen Angus weighing in at 500 kg made €860 each, while a pair of Continentals weighing €565 kg, made €1,050 each.
The bullocks weighing between 400 kg and 500 kg made between €200 and €400 over their weight. Five Limosins weighing 485 kg fetched €765 each while four Friesians weighing 430 kg made €630 each.
Heifers
Once again the heifer ring provided another excellent trade with the beef heifers making between €300 and €630 over their weight.
A Charolais weighing 510 kg was sold for €825 while a Belgian Blue weighing 490 kg feetched €1,120.
The butcher heifers sold for between €260 and €470 over their weight. Two Limosins weighing 420 kg made €820 each, while a single Charolais weighing 445 kg was sold for €705.
The store heifers had a price range of between €250 and €380 over their weight. Three Charolais weighing 340 kg made €615 each while a pair of Limosinsweighing 380 kg were sold for €700 each.
