A local councillor has expressed her delight that Urlingford has been granted funding to start repairs on the main street’s footpaths.
The north Kilkenny town is set to receive €32,200 to start the repairs according to local councillor Mary Hilda Cavanagh.
“I am very glad that over €30,000 has been allocated to Urlingford. This money is badly needed as the footpaths are in very poor repair while the subsidence of the main road is also in line to be repaired,” said Cllr Cavanagh.
“New footpaths should make a big different to the people of Urlingford as walking through the town will now be safer and more comfortable for the residents and the public who do their shopping and business there,” she added.
Even though she was satisfied with the news she criticised the National Roads Authority for not providing any funds to undo the damage caused by many years of heavy traffic through the town.
“I am pleased that the county council has honoured its responsibilities to Urlingford. Unfortunately, the National Roads Authority has not yet provided any funding to undo the damage of years of heavy traffic in the absence of a motorway.
“Securing funding for such projects is very difficult but I will continue to work with the council and lobby the NRA to ensure that Urlingford is not forgotten,” she concluded.
