Job loss fears for city plant

Workers at city manufacturing plant, Celestica, have serious concerns over their job safety in January.

On Firday a company source informed Galway First several staff at the plant in Ballybrit were to be made redundant with more jobs going after Christmas.

The company, which is located in Parkmore Business Park in Ballybrit, specialises in high-volume manufacturing and assembly in the areas of automation, plastics, vision systems, ultrasonic welding, traceability systems, and Programmable Logic Controller programming.

Speaking to Galway First the media relations department at Celestica’s home office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, could not confirm the job losses this week or the possibility of impending job losses, but they did confirm a number of discussions were scheduled to take place late last week with some of the company’s facilities.
