Gun stolen in Portumna raid recovered

Gardaí in Portumna have recovered one of the guns stolen in last Wednesday’s home raid in Portumna which left a man in his 20s in hospital.

The licensed gun was found on Friday near the house in Gurtray where the raid took place just before 1.30pm on Wednesday. A second gun, which was also taken in the raid, is still missing.

A forensic team are continuing their searches of the fields and woods surrounding the house and gardaí continue to search for the two men who are wanted in connection with the theft of the guns and a serious assault on the young man who was in the house at the time of the raid.

Gardai issued a description of the men on Thursday, describing them as being between 19 and 21 years old, with both men around 5 foot 8 inches in height and of stocky build. Both were wearing jeans and dark jackets at the time of the raid and both men spoke with Irish accents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Loughrea gardai on 090-9741004.
