Out with the old, in with the old and beautiful

Newly opened on William Street, Signet specialises in new, used, and antique furniture and rugs and is a unique experience in the city according to owner Peter Regas.

After working as a chef for a number of years in his home state of Virginia, USA, Peter was employed as a personal chef at a stunning 18th century house owned by an avid antique collector and rug dealer. Taking part in a number of deals and learning the inner workings of the antique sales world, Peter quickly grew to love the trade and after meeting and marrying a German woman passing through America, the couple decided to meet halfway between their homelands and set up shop right here in Galway city.

Describing Signet as “new, old, eclectic”, the shop is made up of new, second-hand, and antique pieces that Peter himself found at auctions and sales in England and Ireland, and they are on offer for prices that suit every budget. Peter, whose true passion is Oriental rugs, also specialises in a wide range of floor coverings including mats and antique rugs.

Excited at the prospect of bringing something new to the city, Peter could not be happier with the shop’s location in the heart of the city.

“The Dominick Street area of the city is like the Soho of Galway,” said Peter. “I think this is where the future lies in Galway.”

Signet is located at 2D William Street West and is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm.
