Galway’s Vincent Wood, a composer of ambient and downtempo instrumental music, has released his new album Mid Ocean Calmed on iTunes.
Vincent is based in Salthill and has been composing and playing music for 25 years, both in England - where he spent a good part of his life - and in Ireland.
Mid Ocean Calmed features more than an hour of instrumental pieces. “It could be described as downtempo or chill-out or lounge,” says Vincent. “The sound is ambient with jazz, Latin and Far Eastern influences.”
Vincent has a strong interest in multimedia, combining the visual and aural - something that is reflected in his approach to music.
“Ambient music is non-intrusive,” he says. “It can be dipped in and out of, be in the foreground or background. In the same way that a painting or sculpture can be scrutinised closely, be a glimpse in the corner, or just add to the overall feel of a room. This music is as likely exhibited as performed.”
