Creative boost for TG4

Irish language station TG4 has shown its creative credentials after picking up a number of top marketing prizes.

The channel’s creative output took five separate prizes from announcements made in Barcelona and in Dublin.

An Epica Bronze award at Barcelona for the channel’s television commercial Seisiún was the highlight.

This is Europe’s top creative awards scheme and the TG4 commercial was one of only two Irish entries to be given an award, competing against commercials from 50 other countries.

The winning commercial is a clip, which at first makes the audience appears to be watching an everyday music session in a traditional Irish pub. However, repeated viewing (and varied endings ) show that everything is not as it seems in this scene, illustrating the channel’s message of “The more you watch, the more you see.”

This commercial also took a Bronze award from ICAD, announced last weekend also. ICAD is acknowledged as Ireland’s premier creative awards scheme. The selection jury – comprising national and international experts reward excellence across a range of creative skills and output formats.

This year’s awards saw the TG4 team (comprising in-house personnel, those from its creative partners Publicis QMP and Brian Williams from Super 68 ) win four ICAD Awards, including a Silver for its TV commercial ambient campaign for the documentary series Mobs Mhericeá, Bronze too for the radio advert for the TG4 drama series Seacht and for the TV station Female Warrior at the Washing Machine.

Pádraic Ó Ráighne, TG4 marketing executive said, “These highly prestigious awards are recognition by our peers in the creative industry that TG4 is very successful in creating, devising, producing and putting to air its own distinctive identity to the highest standards and in a very innovative way.”
