A 66-year-old man died tragically last Friday evening in a farming accident in which he became entangled in machinery.
Michael John Madden, an agricultural contractor from Fohenagh, Caltra, had been spreading lime on a farm in Clooneena, Kilconnell, near Ballinasloe when the accident occurred at 5.30pm.
According to a garda spokesperson there had been difficulties with a mechanism at the back of the tractor for some time and the late Mr Madden had been walking behind the machine as it was being driven by another person. He then decided to get on to the back of the tractor and got caught in it.
Gardaí investigating the incident confirmed last Saturday that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
