Better bus services set for Satlhill

Salthill and Knocknacarra residents will see the introduction of much improved bus services over the next three years.

Plans are afoot to introduce a service with buses as regular as every 10 to 15 minutes in the area.

That’s according to Galway West TD Frank Fahey who made the announcement after receiving confirmation from Bus Eireann.

He said, “Bus Eireann then commissioned a feasibility study of services in the west side of Galway city with consultants Capita Symonds and I understand that the report recommends introducing a higher frequency service on this busy route.

“I understand that it is hoped to introduce a service that is as regular as every 10 to 15 minutes.”

He added, “I have asked Bus Eireann to consider including an extension to Bearna in the improved services also and I emphasised to them that the service should be synchronised to suit the timetables of children attending primary and secondary schools.”

He continued, “Adequate bus shelters are also required throughout Salthill and Knocknacarra to improve the quality of service for commuters, and I have held discussions with Bus Eireann and Galway City Council about the provision of a network of quality bus shelters”.
